What To Expect

Acupuncture facilitates balance, priming the body for peak fertility. Acupuncture also promotes the free flow of Qi, or the body’s life energy, which results in a feeling of well-being and vitality for everyone. It can be highly beneficial to have each person involved in the journey undergo treatment. It dramatically reduces the stress and anxiety that go hand-in-hand with fertility, as well as enhances the outcome and the overall experience.

Just Starting Out

Optimal pregnancies start with health and balance in the body. Teacup Acu is here to support you with treatment and advice to get your mind and body ready for pregnancy. Acupuncture can be very helpful to those who are striving to increase their odds of conception without hormonal intervention.

Trying To Conceive Without Intervention

Whether you are weeks, months or years into your journey, a plan of action will be crafted together. This plan is especially designed for you and focuses on regulating your cycle, hormones and any other imbalances. The goal is to prepare and optimize your body for conception. Although our focus is on the reproductive system, we look at the body as a whole.

The health and well-being of your entire body is important when preparing to conceive in any way. It is strongly recommended that weekly treatments start at least three months before conception takes place as it takes about three months for an egg to mature. During that time it is important to create healthy follicles and better egg quality; balance hormones and regulate your menstrual cycle; and get your body as a whole in the best condition for conception to occur.

In Treatment

Whether you are doing IUI, IVF or working on freezing your eggs, the number one goal is to work with you, your doctors and your medications to support and optimize your outcome. We review your goals, understand your treatment and use expertise to help increase uterine blood flow, support ovarian function, development of follicles and more. We use an integrative approach to complement your IVF/IUI plan and provide you with holistic and compassionate evidenced-based care to increase your chances of a positive outcome. Receiving weekly acupuncture for at least 3 months leading up to your procedures will provide you with the best preparation for your IUI or IVF. In addition to regular office visits, pre and post embryo transfer acupuncture is highly recommended. Studies show that receiving acupuncture before and after a transfer can increase your rate of success.

A Final Note

Aside from increasing pregnancy changes, acupuncture additionally lessens side effects of hormone therapies and medications. Most doctors agree that patients benefit significantly from integrating the powerful healing effects of centuries-old acupuncture in conjunction with today’s modern fertility procedures. Scientific studies have shown again and again that acupuncture can increase IVF and IUI success rates dramatically. A review combining the results of seven previous studies has found that IVF with acupuncture (compared to IVF alone) increases the chances of having an ongoing pregnancy (beyond 12 weeks from gestation) by 87%, and nearly doubles the chance of a successful live birth.
